The Back End Engineer will be a key member of the technical team working on building and enhancing an awesome lineup of innovative games for social networks. Zynga’s games draw over 4 million unique users every day, and our Toronto studio is a key part of that.
Working closely with a smart, energetic team of producers, artists, and front-end developers , you will build critical database and server side code that will ensure great performance, reliability, and scalability as we continue to expand our feature set and audience. You will also be heavily involved in configuring servers and architecting databases as well as writing large chunks of PHP code to support app function, monitoring, and metrics.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Work closely with product and other members of the engineering team to scope projects and tasks.
• Set up and configure servers to support current and new games.
• Serve as database architect for key high-throughput db’s which manage player and game info and other critical app data.
• Write MySQL, PHP code, and Linux scripts to drive applications and automate support, monitoring, and analysis.
CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS:
• B.S. in Computer Science, or equivalent experience
• 3+ years of web software development experience, including including heavy lifting with Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP. Java and Flash knowledge a strong plus.
• Experience building high throughput database systems with very high uptime requirements.
• Experience setting up, configuring, and maintaining servers which service tens of thousands of simultaneous users.
• Strong knowledge of software development lifecycle.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, fluid startup environment.
• Extremely strong analytical skills and ability to assist other team members in problem solving.
• Self-starter with strong ability to work independently and solve problems on the fly.
• Experience creating games and/or social networking apps is high desirable. Passion for both is a must.
